Difficulty Levels

Floral Crochet’s difficulty scoring system

Level 3.

“daisy”

Patterns at this level have 2-3 simple components and use 3-5 basic stitches. The flower construction is straightforward. 3-5 stems will make a nice bundle. Many people find their simplicity attractive. They make great first projects to try.

Level 5.

“french lavender”

Progressing to this level, the patterns introduce more elements, like texture in this flower, as well as some advanced stitches to bring objects to life.
You also get to work on styling your bouquet, though an artistic approach is always emphasized even in the base levels.

Level 6.

“Bottlebrush”

Most of my patterns are at level 5&6. They are challenging but manageable to make. You will acquire a few new techniques which can be applied creatively to many projects.
In this particular pattern you learn to use a unconventional technique to produce the thick spikes of this flower.
Making a pattern realistic isn’t my only goal. Rather, flowers I chosen always present certain challenges so to push me to create new techniques that fit for purpose.

Level 7.

“Calla lily”
“Lily of the valley”

From this level, patterns contain frequent use of varied colours. These colours are crocheted and not painted! Think about fair isle knitting vs painted stripes sweater. The intricacies flow through subtle colour changes. This is the quality we are striving for.
Levels above 7 also work on more difficult shapes. The techniques help to control how to construct shapes freely.

“morning glory”

Top level patterns capture high intricacies and demand in depth designs. Often a combination of techniques and multiple components are required to produce a flower. Each of these objects is a true work of art.
